3-3 Dbl Mug is a defensive set inside the Nickel formation, and that distinction matters because the prompts here are all about pressure disguise rather than route running. The alignment puts three down linemen on the line with both inside linebackers mugged directly over the A gaps, a nickel corner on the field side, and two safeties deep. Compared to standard Nickel sets like Nickel 3-3 Cub or Nickel Normal, the double mug look removes the second level entirely before the snap, so the offense cannot read linebacker depth to diagnose man versus zone. Every play in this set, from Cover 3 Sky to Nickel Dog Meg, starts from the exact same picture.

Strengths
