2-4 Load Dbl Mug is a defensive set inside the Nickel family, and it plays nothing like the standard 4-2-5 alignments most players live in. Instead of four hands in the dirt, you get two down linemen with four linebacker types stacked around them, and both interior mugged defenders walked directly into the A gaps over the guards. That "Load" element shifts the front strength to one side, so you are presenting a two-man line with an overloaded edge and a pair of A gap threats staring at the center. Offenses cannot fan protection out cleanly because they have six potential rushers in the box and no idea which four are actually coming.
Live in this set on second and long and third and medium, where the offense must hold protection long enough for the loops to arrive.
Alternate Blitz Loop 3 and Cover 3 Match from the same mug shell so the same look produces pressure and coverage on back to back plays. That is how you break the quarterback's pre-snap read.
User the free safety or the extra Big Nickel safety on all sim pressure calls (Blitz Loop Sim 3, Nickel Sim 2, CB Bench Sim 2) and rob the intermediate crosser the offense is throwing to beat the pressure.
Pinch or spread the mugged defenders pre-snap depending on the run threat: pinch tight against inside zone, spread out to widen the guards before a loop pressure.
Save Blitz Loop 0 for obvious money downs after you have shown three coverage looks from the mug shell, and only when you trust your outside corners in press.
