This is a Tampa 2 zone coverage call out of the 2-4 Load Dbl Mug set in Nickel Big Nickel 4-2-5 personnel, built as a zone defense rather than an offensive play. Both outside corners sink into deep quarter/half zones while the two deep safeties bracket the top of the field, and the Mike linebacker drops straight downfield into the deep middle hole to close the seam that traditionally kills Cover 2. Underneath, the four defenders spread into a zone shell reading the quarterback's eyes, with the two inside linebackers and slot defenders working shallow-to-intermediate zone drops in front of the sticks. This look is designed to shut down vertical seam routes and four verts concepts by getting numbers over the top of every deep zone.
Watch for the quarterback staring down the deep middle seam immediately after the snap, since Tampa 2 is purpose built to bait that throw into the Mike linebacker's zone drop. Key the running back and tight end releases out of the backfield, since Tampa 2 is naturally susceptible to shallow drag and flat combinations that attack the zone in front of your underneath defenders before the safeties and Mike can rally. If the offense comes out with two receivers stacked or bunched to one side, expect crossing routes designed to pull your slot defenders out of their zone drops and create rub separation against man principles. Post-snap, track your user controlled Mike linebacker's depth in the deep middle hole, since if he sits too shallow you invite a big completion over the middle, and if he overruns his drop you open up in cutting lanes underneath for shallow crossers. This shell gets exposed by well timed out and corner routes to the flats right as your corners are still transitioning from their deep quarter drop, so respect any receiver breaking hard to the sideline early in his route.
Call this on early downs or obvious passing situations where you expect the offense to attack the middle of the field with seam routes or four verts, since the extra deep defender in the middle hole is specifically there to close that window.
Pre-snap, identify if the offense is in 3x1 or 4-verts formations and check your Mike linebacker's depth before the snap to make sure he is not late getting into his deep middle drop, since late drops are the number one way this coverage gets exposed for big plays.
Use flat zone hot routes on your slot corners if you see a lot of quick out or flat concepts, since the base flat zone can be a hair light against tight splits and speedy slot receivers.
Mix this in behind Cover 3 Sky and Cover 3 Match from the same set so quarterbacks cannot key your safety rotation, since all three shells look similar pre-snap but distribute defenders very differently to the intermediate and deep areas.
Pair this call on third and long with Blitz Loop Sim 3 to keep opposing offenses guessing between a true zone drop and a pressure package out of the identical Dbl Mug front.
