This playsheet is in the game's files but does not appear among a head coach's abilities in Madden 27, so there is no way to unlock it. Its plays are kept here for reference, and it is left out of the playsheet directory and comparisons.

Overview

Disguise is a 45 play defensive playsheet built on three formations and three sets, which makes it larger than 97% of the game's 30 defensive franchise playsheets. The whole point of the book is in the name: it funnels almost every call through a small number of looks so that Cover 3 Sky, Cover 1 Hole, Cover 3 Match, Quarters and Cover 6 all come out of the same shells. When you only give an opponent three formations to read, your pre-snap picture stops leaking information, and every zone beater they have prepped becomes a guess instead of a read.

The weight sits on 4-2-5 at 18 plays (40%) out of a single set, with 3-4 at 15 plays (33%) and Nickel at 12 plays (27%), each also out of one set. That is a heavy five defensive back tilt once you combine 4-2-5 and Nickel: 30 of the 45 plays, or two thirds of the book, come from sub packages. The 3-4 block is what keeps it from being a pure passing down sheet, giving you a true Base 3-4 front with two stand up edges to pressure from while the Big Nickel 4-2-5 and Base 5-2 personnel groups handle heavier looks. Buck Zone Blitz out of the 3-4, Cov 3 Match Bench, and 2 Invert Hard Flat show the range: gap exchange pressure, pattern match rules, and an inverted two high shell all live here.

Choosing Disguise over a wider book means trading formation variety for repetition and shell deception. Because there is only one set per formation, your audible wheel is tiny and your formation subs stay stable, so you can run Cover 3, Cover 1, Cover 4, Cover 2, Cover 6 and blitz packages off identical alignments without ever touching the play call menu between snaps. It supports a game plan where you win with user coverage and post snap rotation rather than exotic alignments, and it is ideal for a franchise player who wants to install one defense, master the user leverage inside it, and disguise everything on top.

Scheme Fit

Disguise wants a roster built around coverage defensive backs and hybrid front seven bodies: three legitimate starting caliber corners plus a nickel, two safeties with high zone coverage and play recognition so Quarters and Cover 6 rules hold up, and at least one high awareness linebacker who can carry a seam from the 4-2-5 set. The 3-4 block needs two edge defenders with pass rush moves and block shedding, plus a run stopping nose tackle, because with 30 of 45 plays in five defensive back personnel your heavy front has to win on its own snaps. This is a playbook for a user defense player who controls a safety or linebacker every snap, does their disguise work before the snap, and would rather master three formations completely than shuffle through a dozen sets.

Strengths

  • Two thirds of the book (30 of 45 plays) comes from 4-2-5 and Nickel, so you can stay in five defensive back personnel against 11 and 10 personnel offenses all game without ever revealing whether the call is Cover 3 Sky, Cover 1 Hole, Cover 3 Match or a blitz.
  • One set per formation means your audible package is completely clean: hop into the 4-2-5 set and you can cycle Cover 3, Cover 4, Cover 6 and Cover 2 shells from a single alignment, which is real disguise value a book with six sets per formation cannot deliver.
  • The 15 play 3-4 block gives you a Base 3-4 front with stand up edge pressure, so calls like Buck Zone Blitz let you bring gap exchange heat from the same front you use for two high coverage, instead of substituting a whole new personnel group.
  • Cover 3 Match and Quarters coverage in the same book as Cover 1 and Cover 2 means your pattern match rules handle the smash and flood combos while your true man calls handle mesh and drag, and you switch between them off identical pre-snap looks.
  • Concepts like 2 Invert Hard Flat let you show a two high shell and invert it post snap, which makes deep shot reads on your user safety unreliable even when the opponent has your formation tendencies charted.

Weaknesses

  • Only three formations and three total sets means a committed opponent will have your entire alignment library memorized inside a half, and without extra sets you cannot change the picture, only the coverage behind it.
  • Five defensive back personnel accounts for 40% plus 27% of the book, so heavy run formations attacking the 4-2-5 and Nickel edges will find your box light unless you manually shift the line or sub bigger bodies in.
  • There is no dime or three deep prevent style formation in the spread, so on obvious four minute drill or late clock passing situations you are forced to defend deep with the same five defensive back looks the offense has already seen all game.
  • The blitz inventory is spread thin across only three formations, which means your pressure looks repeat quickly and an opponent who blocks Buck Zone Blitz once can re-slide protection to it every time.
  • Heavy reliance on zone concepts (Cover 3, Cover 3 Sky, Cover 3 Match, Cover 4, Quarters, Cover 6, Cover 2) means route combos designed as zone beaters hit repeatedly unless you actively user the flat or hook defender on every snap.

Usage Tips

Build your primary audible package inside the 4-2-5 set since it holds 18 plays (40%) of the book, and treat it as your first and second down default so your Cover 3 Match, Quarters and blitz calls all launch from one alignment.

Reach for the 3-4 set on first and second down against heavy personnel and in short yardage, using Buck Zone Blitz when you need pressure that still has zone help behind it rather than exposing man coverage on a clear run down.

Save the Nickel set (12 plays, 27%) for third and long and obvious drop back situations, and pair it with Cover 1 Hole when you are confident you can user the middle of the field against crossers.

Call 2 Invert Hard Flat when you have shown Cover 3 Sky several snaps in a row, because the inverted two high look punishes an offense that has already committed to attacking the single high seam.

Use Cov 3 Match Bench against outside route stems and flood combos, and manually shift your line or press the boundary corner pre snap to cover the light box that the 4-2-5 and Nickel heavy spread leaves you with.
