Defensive Reads

Post-snap, key the number two receiver's release. A vertical release triggers the underneath defender to carry him up the seam, while a shallow or out release lets that defender sink into his zone. Watch for user-controlled lurk defenders sitting in the middle hook zone, since this is where quarterbacks try to squeeze in-cuts and dig routes against the match rules. This call is vulnerable to quick game concepts like spacing or slot fade where the ball comes out before the match rules fully develop, so respect hot route sight adjustments into the flat. If you see three or four wide receiver sets, consider audibling your linebacker depth slightly deeper before the snap to prevent seam runners from splitting the underneath match defenders.
Pair this play with Cov 3 Match Field and Cov 3 Match in your play-calling sequence so the offense sees the same shell but cannot key on which side gets the match technique, keeping your coverage disguise intact.
