Watch for linebackers biting on the run fake, if they crash down hard the slide route underneath will be wide open for an easy completion. Man coverage on the flat and slide routes can be exploited by the natural pick and separation created by the crossing action near the line. Zone coverage with a hard flat defender sitting on the angled route can take away the checkdown, forcing the QB to hold the ball longer on the rollout. Watch edge defenders and outside contain rushers pre-snap, if they are crashing hard off the boot side the rollout can get squeezed and force a quick throw. A user controlled defender spying the slide route or sitting in the shallow zone can jump the primary read, so identify that threat before committing to the first option.
