PA Weak Flood is a play-action pass out of Singleback Doubles Y Off Close that floods the weak side of the field with three levels of routes stacked on top of each other. The backside X runs a deep vertical route up the numbers while the flood concept on the strong side sends one receiver on a deep out breaking to the sideline, another on a corner-ish crossing route settling in the middle, and the TE releasing to the flat underneath. Defensive Reads

Key the middle linebacker and strong safety at the snap to see if they bite on the play-action fake, which opens throwing lanes on the flood side. Watch the flat defender or curl to flat defender in Cover 3, if he sinks too deep on the corner route the flat becomes wide open underneath. If the cornerback on the flood side sits at the sticks in zone, throw the deep out immediately before he can react to the route breaking outside. Man coverage with no help over the top gets exposed by the backside vertical route, so check for man alignment with defenders backpedaling at the snap. Blitz packages that bring extra rushers force a quick decision, so identify pressure pre-snap and be ready to get the ball out fast to the flat route as a checkdown.

Usage Tips

Look for single high safety shells pre-snap since Cover 3 and Cover 1 struggle to defend all three levels of the flood on one side of the field.

Use the play-action fake to freeze linebackers on early down and distance situations like first and ten or second and short where run action is still respected.

If the defense shows two high safeties, be ready to work the backside vertical route against Cover 2 or Cover 4 since the flood concept gets less spacing.

Pair this call with HB Dive or Inside Zone Split earlier in a series to sell the run fake and get defenders flowing downhill before hitting them with this shot play.

Combine with PA Boot Corner Post or PA Slide from the same set to keep the defense guessing between boot action and this drop back flood concept.
