Stick out of Shotgun Tight Flex Wk sends both outside receivers on deep vertical clear-out routes while the inside slot receiver and the tight end work the stick concept underneath, one sitting on a quick out and the other running a flat route to the same side. This is a classic zone beater built to attack the void underneath two-deep or zone drop shells, since the verticals push corners and safeties off the line and open up the stick and flat combo for easy completions. The primary read progression starts with the stick route (the out breaking sit route), then works to the flat, and finally to the vertical clear-outs if the underneath defenders jump the shorter routes.
Watch the flat defender and hook defender pre-snap, since Cover 3 and Cover 4 zone drops leave the stick and flat window open if those defenders are playing too deep. Key the nickel or slot corner at the snap, if he sinks with the vertical route instead of sitting on the stick, throw the out route immediately for a free completion. Man coverage with no safety help over the top can shut this down quickly since the stick route has less separation against tight man technique, look to backside hot routes in that case. If you see a nano blitz or a user-controlled defender crashing the box pre-snap, get the ball out fast on the flat route since the protection may not hold up long against interior pressure. Watch for a lurking user linebacker sitting in the stick window, if he stays put instead of stepping up, adjust your progression to the flat route on the opposite side to avoid a jumped throw.
Pre-snap, check for two-high shells or Cover 3 zone drops since this play thrives when linebackers and nickel defenders have to respect the vertical routes stretching the field.
Hot route the backside receiver into a quick slant or drag if you diagnose man coverage pre-snap, since the base stick concept is designed more for zone beating than pure man beating.
Use this on early downs or third and short to mid situations where the stick and flat combo gives you a high percentage completion against zone drops.
Pair this call with Mtn Y Cross or PA Dagger from the same set to keep defenders guessing between quick underneath throws and deeper crossing or shot plays.
If the defense starts sitting hard on the stick route after seeing it on tape, sequence in Mesh Spot Rail or Mtn Mesh Spot to attack the same underneath area with different route timing.
