This is a man beater at its core, though the quick timing also punishes zone defenses that sit back and allow easy completions in the flat and hook areas. Your primary read starts with the underneath drag or slant working across the field, then progresses to the boundary quick out if the drag is taken away, using pre-snap leverage to decide which side to attack first.

Defensive Reads

Watch for cornerbacks in soft press or off man coverage, since Quick Looks exploits the cushion with instant timing throws before the defender can close. Identify blitz packages by counting box defenders pre-snap: if you see six or more in the box, get the ball out on the first read before the pressure arrives. Post-snap, read the flow of the middle linebacker or nickel defender toward the drag route, since a user-controlled lurk defender sitting in that lane can jump the throw. This play struggles against zone shells that stay disciplined underneath, particularly Cover 3 sky with linebackers holding their hook zones and refusing to bite on the quick routes. Look for corner blitzes or nano blitz packages that leave the boundary flat exposed, since the quick out route into that vacated space becomes an easy answer.

Usage Tips

Use Quick Looks on third and short or anytime you suspect a blitz based on defender depth at the line and safety rotation late in the pre-snap phase.

Combine Quick Looks with Mtn Y Cross or Stick later in a series once the defense starts jumping the initial quick throws, giving you a double move look off the same personnel and formation.
