The backside receiver runs a deep dig sitting over a shallow in route, creating a natural high low read against zone drops, while the play side stacks a flat route under a corner route from the tight end area, and the running back releases on a flat route after selling the play-action fake. The primary read progression starts with the dig to in levels concept on the backside, then works to the flood side flat if linebackers or safeties jump the underneath in route.

Defensive Reads

Read the middle linebacker depth at the snap since a shallow drop signals zone coverage that opens the dig route behind him. Check safety alignment pre-snap since a single high safety usually means Cover 3 and the levels concept will exploit the seam vacated underneath.
