Spot N Go is a five man route concept out of Empty Base Shotgun designed to attack Cover 3 and other zone shells with a classic Spot combo on one side and a vertical shot on the other. On the play side you get a corner route from the outside receiver, a quick out from the flat receiver, and a hitch or spot sitting underneath the corner route, while the backside runs a go route paired with an out breaking route from the slot. With no running back in the backfield, all five receivers release, forcing the defense to declare coverage immediately. The primary read starts with the deep go route on the backside if the defense shows single high or a blown coverage, then works to the Spot concept flats and corner route if the safety rotates away, and finally checks down to the underneath out route as the last resort.
Check the free safety depth and leverage before the snap, since a single high safety cheating to the strong side spot concept opens up the backside go route for an explosive play. Watch for Cover 3 cloud or sky rotation to the trips or spot side, which signals the corner is jumping the flat and the go route behind it has no help over the top. If the defense shows two high safeties and rolls into Cover 4 or Cover 2, expect the go route to get squeezed and the underneath spot concept becomes the primary answer against soft zone drops. Beware of user controlled linebackers sitting in the shallow spot area or lurking in the passing lane, since a heads up defender who reads the quarterback's eyes can jump the underneath out route and create a turnover opportunity. Man coverage with no deep safety help, particularly Cover 0 blitzes, is the best matchup for the backside go route, so identify blitz packages pre-snap by counting box defenders and checking for overloaded fronts.
Pre-snap, identify whether the defense is showing single high or two high safeties, because Spot N Go is built to punish Cover 3 rotation on the strong side.
If the corner over your backside go route is playing off man or shows outside leverage in Cover 3, take the shot down the field immediately off the snap without working through the Spot side.
Hot route the flat defender's man into a speed out if you see man coverage pre-snap, since the natural spot concept spacing gets tight against aggressive man corners.
Use this play on early downs or second and medium to keep the defense honest, then follow it up with Stick or Curl Flats on the next snap once you have shown the go route to bait safeties into cheating up.
Pair this with Four Verticals in your play-calling sequence, since Spot N Go pulls underneath defenders into flats and curls while Four Verticals attacks the same coverage shell over the top on a later down.
