Jet Pass Fk Zone 1 is a jet motion play-action pass out of Shotgun Dbls Flex Y Off Close that uses the fake jet sweep to hold linebackers and safeties before releasing into a zone-clearing route concept. The jet motion action manipulates second level defenders while the quarterback works a zone beater progression behind it, attacking soft spots between the flat and intermediate zones. Primary read progression starts with the receiver crossing behind the jet fake into the vacated zone window, then works to the underneath check down if the initial window is closed by a robber or curl defender.
Read the linebacker depth at the snap, if they crash hard toward the jet motion side you have a clean throwing lane into the vacated zone. Check safety rotation before the snap, single high shells are vulnerable to this concept because the deep defender cannot help underneath against the zone window created by the fake. Watch for a user lurk defender sitting in the shallow zone, since a smart human user can bait the quarterback and jump the crossing route if the play fake does not sell. Cover 3 and Cover 4 zone shells with aggressive flow to the run fake get gashed the hardest here, but Cover 2 Man or press man concepts with disciplined linebackers who stay home will shut down the underneath window. Diagnose blitz packages quickly, since a zone blitz disguised as man pressure can bring an extra rusher off the edge that the fake jet protection scheme does not account for.
Use the jet motion pre-snap to bait linebackers into flowing with the fake, then freeze the play call if the defense shows heavy run blitz fits toward the motion side. This play excels on early downs and second and short when defenders are conditioned to respect the run threat from Inside Zone and Read Option in this set. Hot route the backside receiver into a quick out if you see man coverage press outside, since the jet fake occupies underneath defenders long enough to isolate that matchup. Pair this call with Zone Fake Jet 1 and PA Zone Fk Jet 1 earlier in a series so the defense overcommits to the jet action, making the actual pass concept hit even more explosively. Avoid calling this against disciplined zone defenses that key the quarterback's eyes instead of the motion, since those defenses will sit in their drops and take away the primary window.
