PA Z Over is a play-action shot play out of Pistol Deuce Close that sells the run fake before attacking downfield with a three-level stretch. The play-side X runs a deep corner/flag route toward the boundary, the Z runs the namesake over route that crosses the field flat to the opposite sideline, and the backside receiver runs a deep dig-to-post crosser that occupies the middle of the field. Defensive Reads

Check the safety alignment before the snap, if you see two high safeties cheat toward the flat route since it beats zone by stretching underneath coverage horizontally.

If the defense shows single high safety or run blitz alignment, target the deep corner route on the play side since man defenders will be occupied fighting through the play fake.

Hot route the backside crosser into a deeper post if you diagnose Cover 3 or Cover 4 shells, this adds a layer that beats zone drops sitting underneath.

Pair this play with HB Dive or HB Split Dive earlier in a drive to condition the defense to bite on run keys, then call PA Z Over to punish overaggressive linebackers and safeties.
