Defensive Reads

Look for user-controlled defenders flowing hard to the playside gap, which signals a cutback opportunity on the backside. Beware of gap-and-a-half or contain defenses on the edges since disciplined defensive ends can string this play out and limit yards before it develops.

Usage Tips

Check the box count pre-snap and only run this into light boxes with six or fewer defenders in the tackle box.

Use your zone blocking to your advantage by pressing the mesh point and reading the frontside double team before committing to a lane.

This play pairs well with HB Stretch and HB Dive from the same Deuce Close set since all three look identical at the snap and force linebackers to hesitate on their fills.

Call this on early downs (first and ten or second and short) to stay ahead of the chains and set up PA Boot Y Leak or PA Z Over later in the series once defenders start crashing down.

Against aggressive run blitz teams, motion into different backfield sets pre-snap to identify if the defense is keying the formation, then bail into RPO Read Cheat Wheel Flat if you see stacked fronts.
