Defensive Reads

Pre-snap, check safety depth and leverage, single high shells with the strong safety cheating down are prime for this boot because the run fake will pull him up. Check the defensive alignment pre-snap for run blitz looks or heavy boxes, those are the moments this concept hits hardest because the fake pulls defenders out of their zone drops.

Roll with the QB and immediately look to the leaking Y crossing the field, he is usually the first man open against man coverage or in the hole against zone.

If the corner route is covered deep, work back down to the flat route for an easy completion and positive yardage instead of forcing a throw into a lurking safety.
