Sim Pressure 3 is a Cover 3 simulated pressure look out of the Nickel Over front designed to disguise a four man rush while dropping extra defenders into zone coverage. Both outside corners sink into deep thirds while the slot corners and one linebacker fan out to underneath zone landmarks, and the interior rushers loop and cross to create confusion up front off the snap. This is a zone beater against the front seven trying to read blitz versus coverage, and the primary read is working from the deep middle third to the underneath flat and curl zones as the quarterback climbs the pocket against the simulated rush.

Defensive Reads

Pre-snap, check safety depth and corner alignment, if both corners are showing deep thirds with the slot defenders walked up, expect the simulated rush look. Post-snap, key the looping interior rushers first since offensive tackles who overset get beat clean by the twist. Watch for the user controlled defender dropping into the intermediate zone, that lurk threat sits on crossing routes and in breaking patterns over the middle. This beats quick game and shallow crossers that try to exploit blitz numbers, since extra zone defenders are already sitting in those windows. Man beating double moves and deep comebacks against the outside corners can expose this call if the corners bite on the underneath zone drop too aggressively.

Usage Tips

Call this on early downs or third and medium when you want to bait the offense into thinking a full blitz is coming while still playing sound zone coverage behind it.

Pre-snap, identify if the offense is sliding protection toward the overload side, since the looping rushers exploit slow reacting offensive lines.

Use the flat zone defenders as your first key against quick game and screens, then peek back to the deep third defenders if the quarterback holds the ball.

Pair this call with Cover 3 Sky or Cover 3 Cloud in the same set so the offense cannot key on rush numbers alone from a similar shell.
