Breakdown

Field Sim 3 is a simulated pressure look out of Nickel Over that shows Cover 3 zone shell on the back end with a five man rush disguised pre-snap. The diagram shows three deep defenders running vertical zone drops to divide the field into thirds, two underneath defenders sitting on curl to flat, and a five man pressure package with two rushers looping to the same gap on the left side to sell the sim blitz look. This is a zone beater for the coverage shell but the disguised rush creates confusion for offenses trying to identify blockers versus rushers, so the primary read is to work high to low through the deep middle third first, then check down to the underneath zone defenders sitting at the sticks.

Defensive Reads

Watch the offensive line pre-snap for hot protection calls that slide toward the looping rushers, this tells you if the sim pressure will actually generate a free rusher Key the running back and tight end release, if they stay in to chip or block the sim pressure is more likely to be picked up cleanly Man beater route combos with quick out cuts or option routes at the stick can exploit the underneath zone defenders if they widen too early Verticals down the seam and deep post routes attack the coverage if either deep third defender misjudges depth or gets baited by a shallow crosser This look struggles against hard play-action rollouts that flood one side, since the underneath zone defenders can get outleveraged before the deep help rotates over

Usage Tips

Diagnose pre-snap whether the offense is sliding protection toward the sim pressure side, since the two looping rushers on the left create a natural overload if the tackle does not adjust

Call this on early downs when you want to disguise coverage while still bringing pressure, especially on second and medium where offenses expect a standard zone drop

Combine Field Sim 3 with Cover 3 Sky and Cover 3 Buzz Match from this same set so quarterbacks cannot key on the deep third rotation before the snap

Use the sim pressure to bait quick game throws into the underneath zone defenders, then user one of the curl to flat defenders to jump the route once you see the receiver settle

Mix this in after showing straight Cover 3 Cloud earlier in the game so the pressure disguise hits harder when the offense expects a soft zone drop
