Defensive Reads
Watch the safety alignment before the snap, a single high safety or a safety cheating down into the box signals man coverage that this play is built to exploit. Key the cornerback on the boundary X, if he crashes down to defend the jet sweep motion the corner route behind him will be uncontested. Read the linebacker depth at the snap, linebackers biting hard on the run fake open up the seam route running through the vacated middle of the field. Against a two high shell with disciplined linebackers who sit in their zone drops, this play struggles since the corner route runs into help and the seam gets squeezed. Beware of a hard edge blitz or aggressive run blitz off the play action look, since the backfield flat route can be undercut by a user-controlled defender reading the mesh point.
Usage Tips
Sell the jet sweep fake by holding the play action button press and letting the motion man clear the frame before you commit to the pass read.
Use this on early downs like first and ten or second and short so the run fake carries real weight against defenses keyed on stopping the sweep.
Check the flat and seam defenders pre-snap, if you see linebackers crashing toward the motion man this is your green light since the corner route will be wide open behind them.
Pair this with straight Jet Sweep and HB Blast earlier in the series so the defense commits to run fits, then dial up PA Jet Sweep to punish overpursuit.
Hot route the underneath flat into a deeper drag if you are facing zone coverage that sits on shallow routes, this keeps the play viable against both man and zone shells.
