PA Jet Sweep out of Singleback Wing Stack sells the jet motion and run fake before working a three level play-action shot off it. The backside receiver runs a deep crosser to the far side of the field while the two remaining routes attack the intermediate middle and the flat, with a check release out of the backfield releasing to the sideline as a safety valve. The offensive line and TE stay in to protect while the play holds linebackers with the run fake, making this a man beater and zone beater built around the crosser hitting the void vacated by the jet action, with the primary read progression going crosser first, then the middle in-cut, then the flat check release.
Defensive Reads
Pre-snap, check safety depth and leverage, a single high safety cheating toward the jet motion side tells you the crosser is about to run into an open middle of the field. Watch linebacker depth at the snap, if they bite on the jet fake and step up into the run lane, immediately look to the crosser as your first read. Cover 3 and Cover 1 with aggressive run support get exposed by this concept because the crosser exploits the vacated deep middle void. Man coverage with no safety help over the top is the biggest bust, since the crosser can run away from trailing defenders once the play action fake commits underneath defenders. Zone shells with disciplined linebackers who sit and read the fake instead of crashing will squeeze the throwing lanes, so be ready to check down to the flat route or the middle in-cut. Watch for a user linebacker spying the quarterback or sitting in the shallow crosser lane, that lurk defender can jump the first read and turn it into a turnover.
Usage Tips
Use this on early downs in run heavy personnel counts so the jet motion actually holds linebackers and safeties instead of getting sniffed out immediately.
Motion the jet man pre-snap and watch linebacker flow, if they crash hard to the sweep side the crosser will have a huge window behind them.
Pair this with actual Jet Sweep and HB Power O from the same set so defenders start keying run fits, then punish that aggression with this shot play later in the series.
Hot route the flat route into a deeper option if you see the defense sitting in a hard zone shell with underneath defenders squatting on shorter routes.
Best called on second and short or after establishing the ground game, since the play action fake only holds defenders if they respect the run tendency in that set.
