This is a true RPO built to punish overaggressive run fits: if the second level defender crashes down on the zone action, the QB pulls and fires the bubble; if that defender stays home to cover the bubble, the QB hands off into the vacated run lane.
Defensive Reads
Key the alignment of the slot defender over the bubble receiver before the snap, if he is playing off with outside leverage the bubble throw is live all game. Watch the middle linebacker's initial step after the snap, if he crashes hard toward the zone run action that confirms the bubble read is open. Man coverage with the slot defender locked in press tends to shut this down fast since the bubble has nowhere to develop, look for a nano blitz disguise where an extra defender walks down late. Cover 2 or Cover 3 zone shells with the flat defender sinking underneath the bubble route are the toughest defensive answers, forcing the QB into the handoff. If a user-controlled defender jumps the bubble route immediately post snap, that is a strong signal the CPU or opponent is sitting on the RPO tendency, so counter with the play-action or inside zone run instead of repeating this same read.
Usage Tips
Pre-snap, identify whether the defense is in a run-heavy front with linebackers stacked tight to the box, since that widens your bubble throwing lane.
Use your right stick or hot route to check the bubble receiver's leverage against press corners before the snap, and audible to a hard zone alert if you see two deep safeties sitting off.
This play thrives on early downs (1st and 10, 2nd and short) because defenses are conditioned to key run action and will overcommit to the inside zone action.
Pair this call with Bounce Inside Zone and Bounce Read Option from the same set to keep the defense guessing between true zone runs and RPO reads off identical formation and motion.
If the defense starts sitting on the bubble with a cornerback or slot defender flying downhill, switch to Read Y Corner or Verticals from the same set to attack that overaggression deep.
