Bounce PA Bubble Flood is a play-action flood concept run out of Shotgun Trips TE Offset Wk with 11 personnel. Defensive Reads
Key the flat or curl-flat defender at the snap, since his reaction to the run fake and bubble screen tells you which level of the flood is open. If the cornerback on the boundary bails deep immediately without respecting run action, expect the bubble or out route to be the easy completion underneath. Watch for a linebacker sitting in a lurk or hook zone who can undercut the underneath out route, especially in Cover 3 or Tampa 2 shells with a robber technique. Man coverage with no safety help over the top invites a big shot on the deep corner route, particularly if the corner peeks into the backfield on the play fake. Blitzes off the edge or interior pressure can disrupt the play fake timing, so check protection numbers pre-snap and be ready to throw the bubble screen quickly as a built-in answer to pressure.
Usage Tips
Use this play on early downs when the defense has shown run tendencies out of your Trips TE Offset Wk formation to maximize the play-action hold on linebackers.
Read the flat defender first: if he sits on the bubble or crashes down on the run fake, immediately reset your eyes to the underneath out route for an easy pitch and catch.
Against Cover 3 shells with a single high safety, trust the deep corner route since the flat defender cannot cover three levels at once.
Pair this play with Bounce Inside Zone and Bounce Read Option from the same set so the run fake sells before you introduce this play action shot, keeping linebackers honest.
Hot route the bubble receiver to a quick screen if you see man pressure at the line, since Cover 3 beaters like this can still be vulnerable to press man if the flat defender jumps the route early.
