Bounce Inside Zone lines up out of Shotgun Trips TE Offset Wk with three receivers stacked to one side and the HB offset next to the QB. This is a zone run play, and the diagram shows the HB taking a lateral bounce path behind the line before pressing outside the tackle box, reading blocks from the offensive line as they flow zone-blocking to one side. The primary read is the frontside bounce lane off the offensive line's zone steps, with the backside cutback available if the playside gets clogged.
Defensive Reads
Watch for defensive ends and outside linebackers crashing hard inside on the snap, since that opens the exact bounce lane this play is designed to hit. If the defense shows a 4-3 or 3-4 base front with linebackers stacked tight to the line, the bounce path can outrun their lateral pursuit before they reset. Beware of defenses that spy or key the HB with a linebacker sitting outside the tackle box, as they can blow up the bounce before it develops. Look for user-controlled defenders flying downhill immediately at the snap, since a disciplined edge defender staying home will force a cutback read instead of a clean bounce. Nickel and dime packages with extra defensive backs near the line can clog bounce lanes with speed, so prioritize this play against base personnel rather than sub packages.
Usage Tips
Use this play against defenses stacked in the box expecting a straight downhill run since the bounce action attacks the edge before defenders can fill their zone run fits.
Check the defensive line alignment pre-snap, if the defensive tackles are shaded inside you have a clean bounce lane to the playside edge.
Hot route the trips receivers into quick stalk blocks or keep them on their base routes to occupy the secondary and prevent early run support rotation.
Pair this with Inside Zone and HB Power from the same set to keep linebackers guessing between downhill and bounce run action, then hit Bounce Read Option later to punish over-pursuit.
Run this on early downs (1st and 10, 2nd and short) when defenses are more likely to sit in base fronts instead of nickel or dime run blitz packages.
