Trey 4WR is Shotgun's four receiver look built around a three receiver surface to one side with a single X isolated away, giving you a true trips-plus-iso structure out of 10 personnel. Unlike the more balanced 2x2 sets in Shotgun (Split, Doubles-style alignments), the Trey stack forces the defense to declare its strength before the snap. Zone teams have to spin the shell toward the three receiver side, which leaves the backside X on an island against a single corner with no help over the top. Man teams have to travel a defender across the formation or accept a linebacker or safety covering a slot receiver in space, and that is the mismatch you are hunting on every snap.
The play list covers the full spectrum of modern spread concepts. Dagger Smash, Inside Dig, Y Cross Flood, and Strong Flood attack zone at three levels with high-low and horizontal stretch reads. Four Verticals, Switch Verts, and Double Post punish Cover 3 and single-high shells by flooding the deep thirds and putting the free safety in a two-way go. Smash, DBL Corner Switch, and Y Corner give you corner-flat combos that shred Cover 2 and quarters, while China N Go and Switch Z Curl generate natural rub and switch releases that break man coverage without a single hot route input.
The 3DRB tag means your third down back is on the field, so HB Slip Screen, WR Screen, and Stick become legitimate answers to heavy pressure rather than throwaway plays. The Gadget tag opens up the trick side of the set, and the SLWR tag puts a slot receiver in the backfield or the slot depending on the play, which is exactly how you get a burner matched up on a linebacker. Inside Zone, HB Base, HB Mid Draw, and Read Option keep the run threat alive out of a formation the defense wants to defend with light personnel, and PA WR In gives you a play action shot off that run tendency.
Read the backside corner's alignment first. Press with no deep help means take the isolated shot with Smash or DBL Corner Switch. Off coverage with a safety shading that side means work the trips concepts instead.
On third and medium, run Stick or Y Corner and hot route the inside trips receiver to a drag if you see man coverage, which creates a rub off the stacked release and gives you a moving target.
Use motion to identify coverage before committing. Motion the slot receiver across and watch whether a defender travels (man) or the shell simply resets (zone), then check into Four Verticals versus single-high or Y Cross Flood versus two-high.
Set up PA WR In after you have shown Inside Zone or Read Option a few times. The linebacker flow off the play action opens the in-breaking window at exactly the depth the play art asks for.
When your opponent starts bringing five and six man pressure at the trips edge, alternate HB Slip Screen and WR Screen to make them pay, then go back to Dagger Smash once they slow the rush.
