Jet Touch Pass is a jet motion quick screen out of the Shotgun Stack Y Off set with 11 personnel. The motion man sprints across the formation as the QB delivers an instant touch pass, with the play side blockers releasing outward to set up a wall of blocks in space. This is a designed screen and horizontal stretch play meant to get the ball out fast and force the defense to defend the perimeter before they can diagnose the play, so the primary read progression is simply throw the touch pass to the jet motion receiver as soon as the ball is snapped, since there is no second read on this concept.
Defensive Reads
Pre-snap, identify if the cornerback or outside linebacker to the motion side is playing tight to the line of scrimmage, since that alignment allows him to squeeze the touch pass before blockers can engage Watch for a flowing linebacker or safety who reads jet motion and crashes down immediately, this is the primary threat that can blow up the play for a loss Zone coverages with soft corners who stay deep tend to give up easy yards on this play since they cannot close the distance in time User controlled defenders who spy or shade toward the boundary pre-snap are the biggest indicator this play will get sniffed out Man coverage with inside leverage on the motion man can undercut the pass, so look for defenders aligned to take away the sideline before calling this concept
Usage Tips
Snap the ball as soon as the jet motion man crosses the backfield to time the touch pass perfectly and avoid a false start or a blown timing window
Use this against aggressive defenses that flow hard toward run action or blitz off the edge, since the perimeter blockers can seal outside linebackers and cornerbacks who overcommit
Call this on early downs like first or second and short to medium yardage when defenses expect run or play action out of this formation
Pair this with PA Jet Sweep and Fake Jet HB Seam from the same set to keep defenders honest on jet motion, since they will start jumping the perimeter and open up play action shots downfield
Avoid calling this into press man coverage with a cornerback sitting outside, since he can blow up the play before the blockers get set
