Inside Zone out of Shotgun Stack Y Off is a true base run play designed to attack the interior gaps with a zone blocking scheme, not a play-action or RPO look despite the RPO tags found elsewhere in this set. The offensive line steps in unison toward the play side, reading the defensive front to create a natural cutback lane while the running back reads the first down lineman inside out. The primary read progression is frontside gap to backside cutback, letting the ball carrier press the hole and break outside if the linebackers flow too hard downhill.

Defensive Reads

Watch for stacked linebackers at depth pre-snap since two backers sitting behind the line signal quick fill run support that can clog the interior gaps fast. Identify if the defense is in a 4-3 under or over front, as shifted fronts can overload one side and kill the frontside cutback lane before it develops. Post-snap, track whether the play side linebacker attacks downhill immediately or reads through the line, since slow flow opens the backside cutback for a big gain. User-controlled defenders flying into the A or B gap pre-snap are a tell for a run blitz, so be ready to check into a pass concept from this set like Levels or Curl Flats. Nickel and dime packages with lighter boxes are prime matchups for this run since fewer defenders in the box means better blocking angles and more room to cut.

Usage Tips

Check the box count before the snap and only run this into light boxes with six or fewer defenders in the tackle box to avoid a numbers disadvantage.

Use the stick or L2 button to manually press the hole yourself against slow linebacker flow instead of trusting the CPU blocking every time.

Pair this with RPO Zone Alert Omaha and RPO Trap Alert Omaha in the same personnel group so the defense cannot sit on run fits without giving up an RPO read.

Attack alignments where the defensive tackles are shaded away from the play call since this creates a bigger initial crease for the zone steps.

Mix in PA Jet Sweep and Fake Jet HB Seam from this set after establishing Inside Zone to force linebackers to respect the jet motion and slow their run fits.
