Zone Fake Jet is a play-action pass out of Shotgun Stack Y Off that starts with a jet motion fake across the backfield to sell the run before the quarterback works the pass concept. The diagram shows a single deep route breaking from the middle of the formation up and out to the sideline while the rest of the protection stays in to block, giving this the look of a boot or sprintout action off jet motion. With only one route revealed running an out breaking corner-area path, the primary read is that receiver on the move, and the quarterback is progressing straight to him off the run fake rather than working a full field progression.
Defensive Reads
Check safety depth before the snap, if both safeties bite down expecting run support the outside breaking route will have room to work. Watch linebacker flow, if they step hard toward the jet motion side you have a clean throwing lane to the receiver breaking outside. Cover 3 and Cover 4 shells that overcommit to run support get exposed because the flowing route can outrun the rotating corner. Man coverage with an aggressive blitz off the edge can disrupt this quickly since the play-action fake takes extra time to sell, so respect quick pressure looks. If the defense stays disciplined and does not bite on the jet fake, the single main route becomes predictable and easy to jump for a user linebacker or safety.
Usage Tips
Use the jet motion pre-snap to bait linebackers and safeties into flowing hard toward the sweep side before the throw develops.
This play hits best on early downs like first and second down when defenses are keyed up to stop the run out of Stack Y Off personnel.
Pair this with PA Jet Sweep and Jet Touch Pass in the same set so defenders cannot sit on the play-action fake without giving up the actual jet run.
If the defense shows a hard run blitz or crashes safeties down pre-snap, trust the single breaking route to work open behind the flowed linebackers.
Hot route your inside receivers into quick option routes if you see man coverage sitting tight, since the base concept only shows one clear route working outside.
