PA Go Slot Cross runs a play-action fake to sell the run before working a deep crosser and a vertical stem on the boundary. Off the play fake, the outside receiver to the play action side runs a go route up the sideline while the slot receiver breaks across the field on a deep cross, and the backside receiver on the flexed TE side climbs the numbers on a vertical seam/go up the sideline. This is a play-action shot play built to hit explosive gains against man coverage, with the crosser designed to work away from man defenders and the two verticals to stress single-high safeties. Primary read progression starts with the deep crosser working across the middle, then works to the backside go route if the safety rotates over the top.

Defensive Reads

Diagnose the safety shell pre-snap, a single high safety alignment tells you the deep crosser and backside go route both have one on one matchups. Watch linebacker depth at the snap, if they crash hard on the run fake it opens a throwing lane for the crosser working behind them. Identify man coverage cues like tight press alignment on the outside receivers, since this concept is designed to exploit man defenders who cannot stay with the crosser across the field. Beware of a user controlled defender sitting in a lurk spot in the middle of the field, since that player can jump the deep cross if the quarterback holds the ball too long. Usage Tips

Use this on early downs or in shot situations where you are willing to take a deep shot off play action, ideally 1st and 10 or 2nd and short when defenses expect run. Check the safety alignment pre-snap, if you see a single high safety or the defense bites on run fakes, the deep crosser will have room to work behind the linebackers and in front of the safety. Hot route the crosser to a shallow drag or option route if you diagnose zone coverage, since the naked cross concept is built primarily to punish man coverage. Pair this play with a quick game concept like Double Slants or a screen like HB Slip Screen earlier in a drive so the defense respects the run fake and bites harder on the play action. Look to throw the backside go route on the flexed TE side if the crosser gets picked up or if the coverage rotates to take away the middle of the field.
