RPO Zone Alert Glance is a run pass option built off inside zone action from Shotgun 11 personnel, giving you a pre-snap alert to check between the zone run and a quick glance route from the slot. The glance route breaks inside on a slant angle designed to attack the vacated middle of the field against man coverage or soft zone drops, while the offensive line executes zone blocking rules for the inside zone run. Your primary read progression starts with the second level defender (usually the Mike or a run fitting linebacker): if he crashes down to fill the run lane, pull and throw the glance, if he sits or bails into coverage, hand it off.
Watch the Mike linebacker at the snap, if he steps up to fill the run gap that is your key to pull and throw the glance immediately Identify single high versus two high safety shells pre-snap, single high often means the linebacker has run support duties and will bite harder on the zone action Look for a user controlled defender spying the glance window over the middle, if the user sits in that throwing lane check it down or take the run instead Cover 3 and Cover 1 with aggressive backers get shredded by the glance route since the throwing lane opens the instant the linebacker commits to the run fit Cover 4 or Cover 2 shells with disciplined linebackers who sit in their zone drops without biting on run action shut this play down, default to the handoff in that look
Check the linebacker depth and safety rotation before the snap, if the box is stacked with eight defenders lean toward the pass option immediately
Use this on early downs like first and second and ten to keep defenses honest, since both the run and pass options are efficient gains
Hot route the backside receiver into a quick out or hitch if you expect man coverage, this gives you a second answer if the glance window closes fast
Pair this play with RPO Peek Slant and RPO Glance Post in your call sheet to keep linebackers guessing on which inside route triggers off run action
Against aggressive blitzing defenses, trust the quick glance read since the ball comes out before pressure arrives, this neutralizes most nano blitz timing
