Breakdown
Flood attacks one side of the field with three receivers stacked in a vertical progression, creating a classic three level flood concept out of Bunch Open Offset. The isolated receiver runs a quick out to the boundary while the bunch releases a corner route, a deep vertical seam, and a shallow out to the flat, stretching the underneath and deep defenders on one side. This is a Cover 3 beater by design, using the corner and flat routes to pull the deep third defender and hole player apart while the seam splits the difference, so the read progresses from the corner route down to the flat if the deep defender jumps the corner, with the deep seam as the home run shot against a lone deep third defender.
Defensive Reads
Look for a single high safety and three deep defenders splitting the field into thirds, this is the shell that gets exposed by the corner to flat stretch. If the cornerback aligned over the bunch bails deep before the snap that confirms zone drops and tells you the flat route will be open underneath. Watch the flat or hole defender after the snap, if he widens to the boundary out route on the left the middle of the field opens for the seam route running through the vacated area. Man coverage with no help over the top shuts this down quickly since the corner route and seam route both get chased stride for stride, so abandon this concept if you see press man alignment with two deep safeties. A disguised blitz that drops a linebacker into the flat late can jump the underneath out route, so watch linebacker depth and hesitation at the snap before committing to the shallow read.
Usage Tips
Check the pre snap alignment of the deep safeties, if you see a single high safety shaded to the bunch side this play is designed to punish that Cover 3 shell immediately. Key the flat defender at the snap, if he sinks with the corner route the underneath out becomes an easy pitch and catch for positive yardage. Use the deep corner route as your first read on third and medium to long since it exploits the seam between the deep third defender and the flat defender in zone coverage. Pair this play with RPO Peek WR Screen or RPO Read Bubble earlier in a series so the defense respects quick throws to the bunch side, then hit them with the deep shot when they bite up on run fits. Motion is not shown here but if your version allows a shift, use it to confirm man versus zone before the snap so you know whether to prioritize the corner or the seam route.
