Usage Tips

Pre-snap, identify whether the corner over the bunch is playing off or bailing into a deep third, since that tells you if the corner route on the outside receiver has room to work. If you see a single high safety, prioritize the backside X vertical as a big-play shot before working the Spot concept. Use the settle route (the crossing tight end) as your rhythm throw versus zone since it sits in the natural void created by the flat-to-corner stretch. Against man coverage, hot route the flat defender's man into a quick out or speed out to create separation, since the Spot concept is designed for zone and can get muddy versus tight man leverage.
