Reload Spacing Switch is a spacing-based passing concept run out of Shotgun Bunch Open Offset with 11 personnel. On the left side the flanker runs a deep drag across the field while the slot receiver sits down on a shallow curl and the tight end works an underneath option route, creating a classic spacing stretch that attacks zone drops from underneath to intermediate depth. On the right side the two bunch receivers run a switch release, one crossing shallow to the outside while the other angles inside for a quick option route, giving a built-in man beater against tight bunch coverage. The primary read progression starts with the switch concept on the right against man leverage, then works to the spacing route by the tight end and slot curl underneath if the defense is showing zone.
Defensive Reads
Check the depth of the underneath linebackers before the snap, if they are sitting shallow in the drag lane the deep crosser will be contested so switch to the curl or option route instead. Watch the bunch side corner alignment, tight press man leverage tells you the switch release will win clean off the rub, while soft coverage suggests they may be playing zone match and sinking under the crossers. Identify any user-controlled defender lurking in the shallow zone on the left side, since a rover playing underneath can jump the drag route and bait a turnover. This concept struggles against disciplined Cover 2 or Cover 6 shells where the flat defender can sit on the curl and the safety help caps the drag route over the top. Blitz-heavy fronts with man coverage behind them get exposed quickly by the switch release, so if you see a nano blitz look, get the ball out fast to the inside option route.
Usage Tips
Use pre-snap motion out of the bunch to force the defense to declare man or zone before the snap, this play is built to punish whichever shell they show. Against Cover 3 look immediately to the deep drag on the left since it sits in the natural void between the flat defender and the deep third defender. Against Cover 4 or press man on the bunch side, work the switch release first since the natural rub creates instant separation for whichever receiver crosses inside. Pair this play with RPO Read Bubble and RPO Peek WR Screen from the same set so the defense has to respect the quick game before you hit them with the deeper spacing read. Best called on second or third and medium when you need a high percentage completion with YAC potential off the drag and curl combo.
