Mtn Fork H-Choice lines up from Pistol Wing Flex Close with 12 personnel, showing a fork concept on the left side where the outer route breaks into a deep post while the inner route runs a corner/flag off the same stem, creating a natural rub for the defense to sort out. On the right side the TE runs a deep out to the sideline while the flat route underneath sits down as a choice route, and the backfield player runs a short swing/angle route to the flat for a checkdown. This is a man beater built on the fork concept to stress inside leverage defenders on the left while giving a high-low flat read on the right, with the primary progression starting at the fork (post over corner) before working to the H-choice route and finally the backfield checkdown.
Key the free safety pre-snap, if he cheats toward the fork concept side that signals two deep help against the post and corner combination. Watch the flat defender on the right side, if he sinks with the deep out route he is opening up the underneath choice route for an easy completion. In man coverage, user the defender responsible for the inside fork route since he has to navigate the natural rub and is most vulnerable to getting picked. Against zone blitz looks, the backfield checkdown becomes the answer, so spy the middle linebacker to see if he drops into the throwing lane before committing to the swing route. Cover 3 with a hard flat corner can shut down the H-choice route, so if you see that alignment post-snap, come back to the fork side immediately.
Look for single high safety shells before the snap since the fork concept on the left is designed to split defenders in man or cover 1 situations.
If the defense shows two deep safeties, prioritize the H-choice route on the right since it settles into soft spots against cover 2 and cover 4 zone drops.
Motion the backfield player before the snap to confirm man coverage, if a linebacker or safety follows across the formation you know it is man and the fork concept becomes your first read.
Use this play on second or third and medium since the deep fork routes need time to develop and the checkdown gives you a safety valve against pressure.
Pair this with Mtn Slot Comeback or PA Boot Y Sail in the same set to keep the defense honest on both the fork stem and the boot action off similar formation looks.
