Play diagram for Sim Pressure 3 from Nickel 3-3 Over in Madden 27

Not in any team playbook.

Breakdown

Sim Pressure 3 out of the Nickel 3-3 Over is a simulated pressure blitz that shows extra rushers at the snap but drops into a Cover 3 shell behind it. The diagram shows the two outside defenders and one underneath defender dropping into deep thirds and short zones while four rushers convert their lanes into a five-man pressure look, with the two inside "X" defenders peeling out to replace the blitzers as zone droppers. This is a zone blitz designed to disguise pressure while still keeping three deep defenders and underneath zone help, so the primary post-snap read for the defense is watching for the quarterback to identify the sim pressure and check into a quick throw before the disguised rushers get home.

Defensive Reads

Pre-snap, check the depth of the linebackers and slot defenders, if they are stacked tight to the line but not fully committed to a gap, expect the sim drop rather than a true blitz. Post-snap, key on which two defenders bail from the line into shallow zones, since they are your first line against quick hitters and hot routes. This beats man beater concepts and RPO reads because the disguised drop defenders sit in passing lanes that quarterbacks expect to be vacated by blitzers. Cover 3 zone beaters like four verticals or deep out and hook combos can exploit this if the quarterback recognizes the sim look early and holds the ball to let receivers work behind the underneath droppers. Watch for offenses attacking the seams between the deep thirds and the shallow drop zones, since the coverage relies on the linebacker peeling into the correct window in time.

Usage Tips

Show this look on early downs when the offense likes to run quick game or spread concepts, since the disguised drop confuses hot route protection assignments.

Bait the quarterback pre-snap by showing four or five defenders creeping toward the line, then bail two of them into underneath zones after the snap to bait a throw into a sitting defender.

Pair this with Cover 3 Match or Cover 3 Sky from the same set so quarterbacks cannot key on personnel or depth before the snap and have to guess between true blitz and simulated pressure.

Use on second and long or third and medium situations where offenses expect a conventional blitz, since the drop-out defenders can rob shallow crossers and hot routes.

User the peeling inside linebacker to jump underneath drag and slant routes since that defender is reading the quarterback's eyes as he drops instead of firing upfield.
