Y Trio Offset Wk is a trips look out of Shotgun 11 personnel where the tight end aligns as part of the three receiver side and the halfback offsets weak, away from the trips. That backfield offset is the whole point: the run game (HB Power O, Inside Zone Split, Mtn Outside Zone) attacks the weak side away from the defense's coverage rotation, while the passing concepts flood the strong side where you have a numbers advantage. Compared to standard Trips or Y Trio sets that align the back directly behind the QB, the offset here gives you a cleaner read on Read Option and RPO plays because the mesh point and the peek defender sit on opposite sides of the formation.
The set is stacked with RPO and read option variants: RPO Peek Post, RPO Zone Peek, Y Lead Read Option, Mtn Y Lead Read Option. These force the defense to declare pre-snap, and in Madden that means you get a free read on the flat defender or the unblocked end. If the box is stacked, you pull and hit the peek route into the vacated space. If the defense drops eight, you hand it off and take four yards. Layer in the motion package (Motion WR Option, Mtn WR Option, Mtn WR Swing, Mtn PA Cross, Mtn PA Flood) and you get pre-snap movement that identifies man versus zone before the ball is even snapped.
Matchup wise, the trips side isolates your slot receiver against the third defender in the stack, usually a nickel or a linebacker in base packages. The SLWR tag matters: you want your best route runner in the inside trips spot on Stick and Curls Combo, because that is where the coverage hole lives against Cover 3 and Cover 4. On the weak side, the single receiver runs true iso routes on Slot Fade, Four Verticals, and Hi Lo Dig, giving you a clean one on one with no help defender if the safety rotates toward the trips.
Motion a trips receiver across pre-snap on Mtn WR Option or Mtn WR Swing to diagnose coverage. If a defender travels, you are in man and Slot Fade or a hot route slant on the backside iso is your best look. If nobody follows, kill the motion and go to Stick or Mtn Z Spot against the zone spacing.
On second and medium, live in RPO Zone Peek and RPO Peek Post. Read the box count first. Six or fewer in the box means hand it off. Seven plus means pull and hit the peek route where the linebacker vacated.
Third and long is Hi Lo Dig or Four Verticals territory. Hot route the trips outside receiver to a curl or comeback and use the dig as your primary against Cover 3, since the deep middle defender is already stretched by the seam.
Use HB Power O and Mtn Outside Zone early to make opponents honor the weak side run, which slows their trips side user pressure and opens the play action package (Mtn PA Cross, Mtn PA Flood) later in the game.
Block your back on any deep passing concept when you see a two high shell with a shaded edge, or check to HB Slip Screen if the opponent shows heavy blitz pre-snap and vacates the middle.
