To the right, the outside receiver runs a corner route while the tight end climbs the seam underneath it, creating a natural high low read on any defender sitting the flat to corner window. To the left, the outside receiver runs a deep corner while the inside receiver runs an out breaking route to the sideline, giving the quarterback a mirrored concept if the defense overplays the right side. This is a man beater and zone beater hybrid, with the seam and out routes serving as the primary progression before working to either corner route based on safety rotation.

Defensive Reads

Pre snap, check safety depth and alignment, since a single high safety rotated to one side signals a hole for the corner route on the opposite side of the field. Watch cornerback press alignment at the line, because tight press man coverage often gets beat by the seam route releasing inside before the defender can recover. Post snap, key the flat defender or curl to flat zone player, since this play is designed to put him in conflict between the underneath out route and the corner route stacking behind him. Look for user controlled safeties sitting deep in the middle of the field, as they can rob the corner routes if the quarterback stares down one side too long. This play struggles against disciplined two deep shells with linebackers dropping into the intermediate seam, so check for a Tampa 2 look or heavy zone drop before committing to the seam read.

Usage Tips

Pre snap, identify whether the defense is showing two high or single high safety look, since Corner Strike thrives against single high shells where the corner routes can attack the void behind the cornerback. If you see press man coverage, hot route the seam runner into a quick slant or speed release to beat the jam before the corner route develops. Use this play on second and long or third and medium situations where the sideline out route and seam combo give you a built in checkdown against zone drops. Pair this call with Mtn H Angle or H Choice earlier in a drive to set up the same formation look, then hit Corner Strike when the defense starts jumping underneath routes. Against two high safety shells, prioritize the flat to seam high low read on either side rather than forcing the corner throw into a deep half defender.
