Zone coverage with light boxes (six defenders or fewer) is the ideal shell to attack, since it means extra defenders are dropping into coverage instead of filling run gaps.

Usage Tips

Use this play on early downs when the defense shows a base 4-3 or 3-4 front without extra run support in the box.

Check the linebacker depth pre-snap: if the mike and will are sitting shallow and stacked over the guards, expect them to fill fast and plan for a cutback.

Motion the second back or use hot routes sparingly here since the strength of this play is the natural zone blocking scheme, not scheme adjustments.

Pair Inside Zone Split with Outside Zone or Mtn Lead Swing from the same set to keep linebackers honest on flow direction before hitting the cutback lane.

On third and short, call this play after running Read Option or RPO Zone Peek earlier in the drive so linebackers hesitate on their run fits.
