Breakdown
PA Bubble out of Shotgun Slot Right shows a play-action fake to the backfield with the offensive line selling run blocking up front. The lone route visible breaks outside off the line, sits briefly in the flat area, then turns upfield into a corner route toward the sideline, giving the quarterback a vertical shot after the run fake freezes the linebackers. This is a play-action shot play designed to punish defenses that bite on the run action, and the primary read is the receiver working from the flat area up the sideline on the corner break.
Defensive Reads
Watch the flat defender and outside cornerback leverage before the snap since soft outside leverage invites the corner route to break open behind them. Post-snap, key the linebackers to see if they bite on the play-action fake, which is exactly what opens the throwing window up the sideline. A single high safety shell (Cover 3 or Cover 1) is most vulnerable to this route since the corner defender is isolated with no deep help over the top. Watch for user controlled defenders sitting in a deep quarter or half responsible for that sideline, since a disciplined user rotation can jump the corner break late. Cover 2 with a hard flat defender and safety rotating over the top can undercut the route, so avoid this play if the defense is showing two high safeties pre-snap.
Usage Tips
Use this on early downs when the defense has shown run support tendencies or stacked the box to punish overaggressive linebacker fills.
Check the safety alignment before the snap: if you see a single high safety cheating toward the middle, the corner route has room to work up the sideline against a lighter shell.
Hold the play-action fake as long as possible to let the corner route develop and get the outside defender to open his hips before the ball comes out.
Pair this with HB Iso or Inside Zone Split earlier in a drive so the run fake carries real threat and linebackers start keying the mesh point.
If the defense shows two high safeties pre-snap, consider audibling to a quicker route or checking to RPO Alert Bubble instead since the corner shot needs one on one leverage outside.
