Post-snap, key the flow of the linebackers on the play-action fake. If they bite hard on the run action, the middle of the field opens up for the deep crosser. Beware Cover 2 or Cover 4 shells with two deep safeties, since the corner route has less room to work and a user-controlled safety can jump the route late. Look for a user lurking underneath in the shallow zone as a sign the defense is sitting on the slide route, which should push your progression toward the deeper options instead.

Usage Tips

Call this on early downs (1st and 10 or 2nd and short) when you have already established inside zone or PA Slide's run counterpart to keep linebackers honest on the play-action fake.

Motion the man across pre-snap and watch the defense: if a defender follows across the formation you know you are facing man coverage and the crossing route or corner route should win versus a chasing defender.

Against single-high safety looks, prioritize the corner route up the sideline since the deep half is often thin, especially if the safety cheats toward the crosser.

Use hot routes to convert the underneath slide into a quick flat if you diagnose a Cover 0 or all-out blitz look, giving your quarterback a fast, safe outlet before pressure arrives.

Pair this play with Mtn PA Slide or RPO Read Cntr earlier in a series so the defense respects the run fake, then hit them with the deep shots off Return PA Slide once linebackers start creeping up.
