Overview

Full House Pro takes the Pistol's shortened depth and packs the backfield with three bodies: the halfback directly behind the quarterback with a fullback and a second back flanking him. Unlike Pistol Slot or Pistol Bunch sets that spread the field horizontally with three and four receiver looks, Full House Pro puts 21 personnel on the field with just one wideout and one tight end attached, which pulls safeties down and pressures defenses to commit run defenders inside the numbers. The result is a heavy formation that still keeps the quarterback in a read position, so run and pass are genuinely indistinguishable until the mesh point.

Strengths

  • Read Option and Read Option Wk force the unblocked edge defender to declare, and because the quarterback is in the Pistol he keeps depth to pull and get outside without losing ground the way an under center handoff would
  • PA Boot Rt and PA Flood FB Slip punish aggressive run fits, the fullback slip route leaks into vacated space when linebackers trigger downhill on the play action
  • The three back alignment lets you release extra receivers on hot routes, motioning a back out wide or flexing him to the slot creates instant mismatches against linebackers in man coverage
  • Slants gives you a clean quick game answer against Cover 1 and Cover 3, the single receiver side isolates your best wideout on an island with no help underneath
  • HB Dive Wk is a fast developing interior run that gets snapped off before nano blitzes can loop, and it keeps the safety honest for your next play action shot

Weaknesses

  • Only one wide receiver and one tight end means the pass concept menu is thin, opponents who recognize 21 personnel can drop into heavy zone shells and force you into low percentage throws
  • Man coverage with a user on the isolated receiver kills Slants and the boot concepts, there is no second outside threat to occupy the corner
  • Edge pressure from the open side collapses the play action rollouts, PA Boot Rt takes too long to develop if the defense sends the free defender at the quarterback's back shoulder
  • No natural vertical stretch, safeties can sit at 12 to 15 yards and rally on everything without fear of getting beat over the top
  • Heavy personnel invites goal line and 4 to 6 defensive line packages that clog the interior run lanes and win the numbers game at the point of attack

Usage Tips

Use this set on second and short or third and short when the defense shows a single high shell, the read option keeps the edge honest and the play action follows naturally off the same look

Check the defensive front before the snap, if you see a light box with both safeties deep hand the ball off, if the box is stacked pull it and get to the perimeter

Motion a back out of the backfield to identify coverage, if a linebacker follows him you have man and PA Flood FB Slip or Slants become your best calls

Hot route the tight end on a drag or the flexed back on an angle route to build a man beater the play art does not give you naturally

Save PA Boot Rt for after you have established Read Option and HB Dive Wk, the boot only works once the linebackers are triggering hard on run keys
