HB Dive Wk is a downhill inside run out of the Pistol Full House Pro set with 21 personnel, giving the offense two backs and a tight end for extra blocking surfaces. The diagram shows the fullback and offlink blockers stepping straight ahead to seal the interior gaps while the halfback takes the weak side handoff and hits the crease behind the center and guard. This is a pure run play with no play-action or route concept attached, designed to attack light boxes and beat run blitzes with a quick downhill decision rather than a lateral read.
Watch the middle linebacker depth and gap alignment before the snap since a stacked box with the MLB creeping to the line signals a run blitz that can blow this play up. Identify whether the defense is in a base 4-3 or 3-4 front, since heavier fronts with extra defenders on the line clog the interior lanes this play needs. Key the fullback's block target after the snap to see which gap is developing, and if the user defender flows too fast to that side there may be a natural cutback lane. This play struggles against interior run blitzes and any defense sending extra numbers through the A or B gaps, so switch to an outside run or RPO if you see a heavy blitz look pre-snap. Man coverage shells with off-ball linebackers sitting back in pass drops tend to leave the box light, which is exactly when this dive hits hardest.
Check the defensive box count before the snap and only call this into 6 or fewer defenders in the box since the dive hits so quickly there is no time to bounce it outside. Use the fullback lead blocker as your visual key and trust the initial hole rather than dancing behind the line, since hesitation kills this play's tempo advantage. Mix HB Dive Wk with Read Option and Read Option Wk from the same Full House Pro set so the defense has to respect both the give and the keep, which slows down linebacker fast flow. On early downs in short yardage or 3rd and 1 situations this play is a strong staple because the extra blocker package overloads the middle of the field. Pair it with Slants or PA Flood FB Slip on second down to keep defenses honest after establishing the dive as a tempo-setter.
