The two outside corners sink into deep thirds, the middle linebacker area gets a deep middle third defender crossing over from the opposite side, and the underneath zone is covered by two flat defenders and a shallow hook defender, leaving four rushers plus a blitzing defender attacking the pocket off the edge. This is a zone blitz beater killer designed to disguise pressure while still keeping three deep defenders over the top, so the primary read is getting through your protection call first, then working from the deep middle third read to the underneath flat and hook defenders as they widen or sink.

Defensive Reads

Key the three deep defenders first, if all three sink into deep thirds at the snap you are looking at classic Cover 3 behind the blitz. Watch the two flat defenders closely, they will widen quickly to take away quick outs and speed outs so double moves to the flat can be baited into interceptions. Usage Tips

Use this on third and medium to third and long when you expect the offense to test the middle of the field with digs or crossers, since the extra rusher forces quick decisions. Check the pre-snap alignment for stacked or walked up slot defenders, that usually confirms the blitz is live and you should call a hot route to get a receiver out quickly against the shorter underneath zones.
