Your primary read progression as the defender starts with the deep quarters diagnosing any vertical stem from the number two receiver, then working down to the underneath zone defenders squeezing shallow crossers and check downs.

Defensive Reads

Watch the number two receiver at the snap, if he releases vertically the safety on that side should widen and stay over the top, this is your key that the offense is running a man beater or deep shot concept. Use the flat defenders to squeeze RPO bubble screens and quick outs, this coverage is vulnerable to underneath throws if your linebackers sit too deep, so manually user the Mike to rob any drag or dig route crossing the middle.
