Silver Shoot Pinch

Breakdown

Silver Shoot Pinch is a zone beater out of the 3-3 Over Jack Nickel package that leans on quick-hitting shoot routes stacked with an intermediate pinch concept over the middle to attack soft spots in zone coverage. The design pulls underneath defenders toward the shoot routes to the flat while a crosser or dig works behind them into the vacated void, giving the quarterback a horizontal stretch on one side before working back to the middle read. Primary progression starts with the shoot route as a built-in checkdown, then climbs to the pinching intermediate route if the flat defender sinks or the linebacker bites on the initial motion.

Defensive Reads

Key the flat defender first, if he widens with the shoot route immediately, the pinch route behind him is live for a big gain Watch linebacker depth at the snap, shallow linebackers who crash downhill on the shoot action open up the intermediate crossing window Identify Cover 2 Man or Cover 1 Man pre snap by checking corner alignment, tight press corners signal man coverage that favors the pinch route beating a trailing linebacker Look for a robber or lurk defender sitting in the middle of the field, this is the primary threat that can jump the pinching route if the quarterback stares it down Cover 3 Cloud and Cover 6 rotations tend to shut this down quickly since the cloud corner and half field safety both sit on the shoot and pinch combo simultaneously

Usage Tips

Use this play on early downs or in third and short situations where the shoot route can pick up the sticks immediately against soft zone drops

Check the flat defender pre snap, if you see Cover 3 Sky or Cover 4 with a hard corner sitting on the flat, the shoot route becomes an easy quick game answer

Hot route the backside receiver into a speed out or slant if the defense shows two high safeties, this gives you a man beater conversion without changing personnel

Pair this call with Cover 4 Palms or Cover 3 Match from the same set on defense to disguise your own tendencies when you flip to offense in franchise scrimmages

Sequence Silver Shoot Pinch after running Buck Slant 3 or Nickel Sim 2, the shoot route look mirrors those concepts enough to keep linebackers guessing on run fits versus pass sets
