1 Double WR1 out of the 3-3 Over Jack Nickel 4-2-5 set is a passing concept built around a double move package attached to the WR1 side, designed to isolate your best receiver against man coverage while giving you a built in answer versus zone drops. The concept stacks a deep breaking route with an underneath option to create a natural high low read, functioning primarily as a man beater that also holds up against off zone shells thanks to the underneath settle route. Primary read progression starts with WR1 on the double move, then works down to the underneath crosser or check down if the corner sits on top of the route.
Check the corner over WR1 pre-snap, if he is playing tight man press with no help over the top this play is designed to win deep on the double move. Identify single high versus two high safety alignment before the snap, single high (Cover 1 or Cover 3) opens up the double move for a big play while two high shells force you to check down to the underneath option. Post-snap, watch for a user controlled defender sinking into the deep third or quarter, if he stays flat footed on the double move you have a clean throwing window. Key linebacker depth at the snap, shallow linebackers who bail into zone drops can undercut the underneath crosser, so be ready to reset to the check down if that lane closes. This play struggles against disciplined Cover 4 Palms or Cover 2 Match looks where defenders sit on the underneath break and rob the double move, so have Cross Sim 2 or Cover 9 Sammie ready as counters if the defense keeps sitting on this read.
Motion the WR1 pre-snap if your version of the playbook allows it to confirm man versus zone based on whether the defender follows across the formation.
Use this play on second and medium or third and long when defenses are more likely to play off zone shells like Cover 3 or Cover 4, since the double move punishes corners who sink too early.
Hot route the backside receiver into a quick out or drag to give yourself a rhythm throw if the primary side is capped by a two high safety look.
Pair this play with 1 Double TE and Buck Slant 3 from the same set to keep the defense guessing between double move shots and quick game, forcing linebackers to respect multiple depths.
Against aggressive man coverage teams, snap it quickly off a play action look from Sim Pressure 3 or Field Sim 3 to freeze linebackers before they can jump the underneath window.
