Defensive Reads
Identify single-high safety shells (Cover 1 or Cover 3) pre-snap since this play is designed to attack the deep middle void with the seam route. Watch linebacker depth at the snap; if they crash hard on the play-action fake, the seam and deep vertical will have wide throwing lanes. Beware of Cover 2 shells with corners playing off, as the deep verticals can get squeezed by two deep safeties sitting on top. Key the flat defender or user-controlled linebacker dropping into the flat, since that determines whether the checkdown or the deep read stays open. Watch for user lurk defenders sitting in the middle hook zone who can undercut the seam route if the quarterback stares it down too long.

Run this on early downs (1st or 2nd and medium) when you have used play-action successfully already to keep the front seven honest.
Check pre-snap for two-high shells; if safeties are shaded to one side, target the vertical route away from rotation for the deep shot.
Use the flat route as your hot route answer versus disguised blitzes since it releases quickly and beats overload pressure looks.
