Okie Eagle 3 is a Cover 3 zone blitz look out of the Dime 1-4-6 set that drops a heavy Big Dime personnel group into a three deep, four under shell while sending pressure up front. Defensive Reads
Pre-snap, check safety depth: if both safeties are deep at 10 plus yards you have your three deep shell confirmed, but if one safety creeps down into the box you are looking at a disguised blitz variation. Post-snap, key the two underneath defenders crashing on angle blitzes, since their timing is designed to beat five and six man protection schemes that leave a gap on the play side. Watch the boundary seam defender closely against trips or bunch formations, since he is responsible for the deepest route to that side and can get stressed by a vertical seam route. This call gets beaten by quick game concepts like slants and hitches that get the ball out before the blitz pressure arrives, so respect fast timing throws on third and short. Play action rollouts and RPO run reads can exploit the vacated underneath area if the blitzing defenders overcommit, so stay disciplined with your user controlled defender on any pull or bootleg action.
Usage Tips
Call this on early downs or second and medium when you expect the offense to shift protection late, since the underlying blitz timing punishes slow motion protection calls.
Pre-snap, identify if the offense is in a spread formation with three or more receivers to one side, because the flat defender can get outleveraged if you do not adjust his depth with a hot route.
Use the shallow flat defender as a spy against mobile quarterbacks by manually controlling him after the snap instead of letting the AI crash the blitz lane.
Pair this call with Cover 3 Sky or Cover 2 Sink from the same set to disguise the same three deep shell while alternating the underneath blitz pressure look.
Bait play action heavy offenses with this call early in the drive, then switch to Cover 4 Drop later once the quarterback starts anticipating the blitz timing.
