Cover 2 Man is a hybrid coverage call out of the Under 4-3 Base personnel that combines two deep safeties with man coverage underneath from the corners and linebackers. The two safeties sit in the deep halves to eliminate anything over the top while the cornerbacks and linebackers lock up their assigned receivers, making this a strong answer against drag routes, crossers, and shallow man beater concepts that try to exploit straight zone drops. The primary defensive read progression starts with the deep half safeties reading the quarterback's eyes to trigger toward the ball, then working down to the underneath defenders who need to stay glued to their man assignments through the route stem.

Usage Tips
Use this call on early downs or third and medium when you expect a balanced pass concept and want insurance against big plays over the middle
Identify pre-snap if the offense is running bunch or stack formations, since man coverage underneath can get picked or rubbed off natural traffic
Mix this in after showing Cover 2 Invert or Tampa 2 from the same set so the offense cannot key on safety depth or leverage before the snap
Hot route your linebackers into tighter man technique if you see the offense attacking seams with tight ends or slot receivers running option routes
