Breakdown

Olb Fire Man is a man to man blitz out of the 4-3 Over Base personnel that brings the Sam and Will linebackers off the edge while the secondary locks up man across the board. The diagram shows four underneath defenders driving vertically downhill with two of those defenders (the slot man and one outside defender) breaking inside toward the middle of the field, mirroring likely crossing routes from the offense, while the four deep dots represent the man-to-man defenders staying square with their assignments. This is a blitz package designed to win with pressure and tight man coverage rather than disguise, so the primary read is getting the LB blitzers home before the quarterback can climb the pocket or hit a hot route into the vacated B-gap.

Defensive Reads

Read the running back and tight end release pre-snap since any blocker staying in to chip the OLB blitz can slow your pressure and force you into a coverage bust. Watch for quick game concepts like slants and stick routes that attack the vacated underneath zone before your rushers arrive, since this is man coverage with no zone robber help. Identify if the offense shows trips or bunch formations, since your man defenders can get picked or rubbed off natural traffic, so be ready to fight through picks with your DBs. Post-snap, key the quarterback's eyes immediately after the snap. If he is looking to a hot route in the flat, your blitzing linebacker's speed to the QB is your best defense. This beats teams that hold protection or run empty sets with no built-in hot answer, but it is vulnerable to screens and quick RPOs that punish the aggressive linebacker blitz.

Usage Tips

Call this on passing downs where you expect a dropback throw, especially third and medium to long, since the extra rushers need time to affect the quarterback before a quick game beats it.

Pre-snap, check the offensive protection and personnel. If you see max protect or extra blockers stay in, consider audibling out since your underneath defenders are locked in man with no help.

Use user control on one of the blitzing linebackers to time the snap and shoot the gap before the tackle or guard can climb to the second level.

Mix this in after showing Cover 1 Hole Press or Cover 1 Sting WK from the same set so quarterbacks cannot key blitz versus coverage pre-snap based on safety depth.

Pair this call with Free Fire or Free Fire 3 later in a series once the offense starts sliding protection toward the field side, since the blitz angles will differ enough to still catch them off guard.
