Breakdown

Dbl Safety Blitz brings both safeties on delayed blitzes off the second level while the four down linemen and the underneath defenders drop into short zone coverage. The two cornerbacks stay outside on islands with no deep help, and the three shallow zone droppers (two linebackers and a nickel or slot defender) sink into flat and hook zones directly underneath. This is a zone pressure package designed to disguise a two safety shell pre-snap and then bring five or six rushers, so the primary read for the offense is to attack the vacated deep middle and both outside corner matchups immediately before the extra rushers close throwing lanes.

Defensive Reads

Watch both safeties at the snap, if they stay at depth for a beat before crashing it confirms the blitz and you should key the running back for a check release into the blitz-vacated area. Cornerbacks are on islands with zero deep help, so this look gets exposed by any vertical route or double move against man beater route concepts. The three underneath zone droppers only cover shallow, so any route that settles at ten yards or deeper against a soft spot will hang open before the rush arrives. If the offense shows empty or spread formations, the safety blitz timing changes since the second level defenders have farther to travel, so track leverage on the slot defenders closely. This dies against quick game and hot route conversions since the blitz needs about two and a half seconds to develop, so anticipate screens and stick routes as the natural counters.

Usage Tips

Call this when you diagnose two high safeties pre-snap since the disguise sells zone coverage before both safeties crash downhill after the snap.

Use hot routes to convert the shallow zone droppers into a spy or extra rusher if you want a true six man pressure look against empty or spread formations.

Combine this with Cover 4 Quarters and Cover 2 Hard Flat in the same play call sequence so quarterbacks cannot key blitz tells from safety depth alone.

Best used on third and medium or in the red zone where the quarterback needs extra time to climb the pocket and the blitz timing forces a quick decision.

Pair with Free Fire or Free Fire 3 on consecutive snaps to keep alternating pressure angles and prevent the offense from setting protection to one side.
