Casino Blitz is a five or six man pressure package out of the 4-2-5 Over G Big Nickel personnel designed to overload one side of the offensive line while sending extra defenders through the interior gaps. This is not a coverage based play, it is a pure blitz call that leans on man coverage principles behind the pressure, typically Cover 0 or Cover 1 with a robber, so leverage on the outside receivers matters more than zone drops. The primary read for the blitzing defense is the running back and quarterback's escape lane, since the design forces a quick decision by collapsing the pocket before the offense can get through its route progression.
Watch the running back's alignment and helmet turn before the snap, if he is checking blitz protection instead of releasing into a route the offense expects pressure and may have a quick throw ready. Identify whether the quarterback is under center or in shotgun, since shotgun snaps give faster release time on hot routes and can beat this blitz before the rush arrives. Key the slot cornerback and safety depth in the Big Nickel look, if they are aligned tight to the line of scrimmage the defense is likely bringing extra pressure and leaving man coverage on the perimeter. Trust in this call against heavier personnel and two tight end sets, where extra blockers slow releases and the blitz has time to develop. Beware of quick game and screen concepts, especially bubble screens or hitches to the slot, since those beat the blitz timing and turn Casino Blitz into a big play against the defense.
Use Casino Blitz on third and long or in two minute situations where the offense is likely to sit in the pocket and take a deep drop, since the extra rushers need time to close.
Check the pre-snap formation for max protect or extra blockers such as a fullback or tight end staying in, and if you see six or seven blockers consider backing out of the blitz into a coverage check like Cover 4 Quarters or Cover 6 instead.
Spy or user control the middle linebacker to close throwing lanes if the quarterback has scramble ability, since Casino Blitz can be vulnerable to designed rollouts and boot action away from the pressure.
Pair this call in your play sequencing with Ws Blitz 2 or SS Blitz 3 so opponents cannot key on a single blitz shape, then mix in Cover 1 Hole as a fake blitz look to keep them honest.
Avoid calling this against empty or spread formations with quick game concepts, since the hot routes and slot receivers can beat the blitz before your rush gets home, in that scenario Corner Blitz 3 or Pinch Blitz may time up better.
